1912 Arts & Crafts two-story house Hi! Welcome to my webpage.
In these webpages I have listed all the projects we have done in our 1912 Arts & Crafts house since May 1999. After my wife and I moved into this bueatiful home, I setup a homeshop in the basement and started woodworking. Since then, it has been a major hobby that occupies most of my spare time. I also like to play tennis, badminton and go skiing, but I enjoy woodworking the most.

Here is a brief history of our house and how we ended up owning it. My wife had a job change in late 1998 that took us to Salt Lake City. Three months after I moved here from Portland, Oregon, we started looking to buy a house in the avenues area. As you know, many SLC streets are called by coordinates like 700 East or 1100 South. Avenues area is considered historic residential community that has many old houses and the roads are actually named by streets and avenues like D Street and 7th Avenue. To make long story short, second weekend into our house hunting with our realtor, we walked in this two-story red brick house located in a corner lot. It was late April and 90 degrees outside, but when we stepped into this house, it was surprisingly cool inside without AC. The wood cross beams in the ceilings, built-in hatch in the dinning room, wide panels around windows and doors, wide base board and upgraded Pella double pane windows were very impressive to us.
Since it was the first time for us to buy a house, we had it checked out thoroughly. We then decided "'This is the house' for us." Our realtor could not be happier after only two weekends of looking at 6 houses. We closed the deal by the end of April. Next time when he came to give us the keys to the house, he was driving a brand new 4X4. He had been borrowing his mother's BMW to take us looking for houses. The last time we saw our realtor was when he helped us moving a couple of furnitures. He broke a dresser top glass that I had to replace myself for $50. Then we have never heard from him again, nor the sushi dinner and gift basket he had promised.
We have been enjoying living in this beautiful house since then. Like any old house, there are a lot of work to do to make it our own home. We have learnt a good deal of old house renovation and my woodworking skill has improved to a level that I love what I do and can make the things we like to have.
