The reason why I like Blur lies in the simple reason that they make good varied music. The group is constantly redefining themselves, and their music has a degree of sophistication, and it all makes for good music. Also, they don’t try to imitate, they innovate, and as such they dare to be different. Not everyone likes Blur, but that fact just makes me like them so much more because I can associate with their music. The first time I heard of Blur must have been when they released their self entitled album Blur, sometime in 1997. At first I loved Song2, because it was the only song I heard. It was on the radio, mtv (the video of damon and the group crashing into walls is super), at parties, and pretty much everywhere. I remember buying the cd and feeling a bit disappointed, since none of the other songs were similar to song2. Eventually I began listening to the other songs and found that I really liked them. Songs like beetlebum, M.O.R, Chinese Bombs, On Your Own, essex, and basically every song on the album are great. Last summer when I went back to Sweden I saw Blur once again on MTV and I read about their new album 13. So, being the devoted blur chap I am, I went to the closest record store and bought their best album to date, 13. And the 13 scribbled on the cd itself is cool because its both a 13 and a B for blur, and also the number of tracks on the cd. Its all good. The cover of the album is a detail from the painting "Apprentice" by Graham Coxon, and Alex remarked "I thought it was me. Then I realized that that was because it's good, and you always think good art is about you, don't you?". And thats about it, have listened to blur ever since, and always will. I've started to listen to some of their former albums and those are really good too. I love For Tomorrow, especially this live recording I have of it. But I have yet to see them live! I can't believe I missed the chance to see them live at Riddarholmen, during the Stockholm Water Festival, but the fact is that there was no way I could have gone. So close yet so far. Now I can read about the group, see pics, hear the latest news... visit my links page for a handful of these pages.
