MOD stands for module and it´s a file made with a program that´s only uses sampled instruments like wav-files. It all started in 1987 when Karsten Obarski was tired of the crunchy blitter music on Amigan and made Soundtracker, the first MOD musicprogram. MOD become a standard on Amiga and other computer-platforms also started with MOD.
MOD is most known on the Demo scene( programmer, graphic-maker, musician and others wich goes to gather to show how god they are by making demonstrations wich looks nearly like rock-videos ).
