Let me start by suggesting that you save this page and read it off-line
What Is ClubQL?
It is a monthly newsletter on matters QL where the readers are also the contributors
We recently sent out our 100th issue and have never missed a month since we started
Who Is It For?
Anyone with any sort of QL related setup from a simple unexpanded QL with
microdrives to a PC with a QXL board and anything inbetween.
It is aimed at the less technical and those of you who converse in assembler
will find it boring. It is not aimed at dealers or the QL professional although we
do have the editors of the 2 best known QL magazines and a Quanta committee
member among our regular contributors. (Hi Dilwyn, Colin and John)
We try to help with anyone's problems no matter how basic.
There is no question you can't ask for fear of getting sneered at
No matter what reception you have had elsewhere - it won't happen here
Who Contributes?
Hopefully you will!
The snail mail method rather assumes that you will send in a few
lines but you can get the newsletter from the Internet and remain as a lurker
although to get full value from it we hope you will want to join in the discussions
We have members of all levels of expertise and with all sorts of equipment
How Do I get It?
The newsletter is snail mail based but there are also two Internet methods
I will describe the postal method first because although most of you won't
want to use that it will help to explain the structure of the letter
You start by sending a formatted disc in a Jiffy bag with the return postage
to our editor (the very patient Mike Kenneally). He then returns it to you with
the current edition of the newsletter on it as a Quill file. You then send it back
to him with your letter (also a Quill file) on it and the return postage and he then
returns it to you with the next newsletter and so on ad infinitum
If you wish to get the newsletter this way send an e-mail to
myself at martinw@wheatleym.freeserve.co.uk
or to Mike at MIKEKENNEALLY1@compuserve.com
for the address to write to
Alternatively you can have the newsletter sent to you by e-mail every month
Send an e-mail to Mike and ask to be put on the list
Contributions should be sent as a normal e-mail to Mike (not as an attachment)
Finally the newsletter can be downloaded from this page but you will not
get them as quickly as the other two methods. This however is a good way
to get a back issue if you miss one (saves bothering the overworked Mike!)
What Can I Write?
That's what we all think every month! What I do is to look at the previous issue
There are almost always things to comment on or to answer. Also you may have
questions to ask and things to say. It gets very easy after awhile.
A good way to start is just to introduce yourself
How long have you used a QL- what do you do with it and so on
How Did It Start?
It began with a letter to QL World written by Bill Johns complaining that everything
in QL World and Quanta was too complicated for him and that he couldn't get answers
to simple questions. Frank Merrison and Mike Kenneally got in touch with him and
ClubQL was started. We have always tried to make no assumptions about the
equipment that people have although the newsletter is now too big for microdrives
For this reason the snail mail version is in Quill because that is the one program
everyone is sure to have. The Internet version is a recent addition and is a text file
If anyone has any further questions please feel free to write to Mike or myself
(e-mail addresses above)
