Seagull
In late July 1998 I got a chance to travel back to my home state of Wisconsin courtesy of Seagull!  We were putting on a company display of some of our products at the big airshow in Oshkosh.  The work was voluntary, but we did get free transport, food, and lodging.  Aside from having a wonderful time at the show, it was great for me because I took the remainder of the week off and got a chance to visit my family before returning to the Bay Area.  You can't beat a free trip home!  :-)

At the Denver airport
This is me filming myself in the Denver airport en route to Oshkosh, WI.  Basically I was documenting the frustrations in air travel that Goli and I were experiencing that day.  It was definitely a nightmare trip for us!
Mark's birthday
Goli and I finally arrived at our cabin in Omro, WI around midnight--a 15 hour travel day for us from SF!!!  We arrived with just a few minutes to spare in catching the tail end of Mark's birthday.  Goli brought a cake with her, so we all celebrated before hitting the hay.
Ed's speech
Off to the airshow early in the morning!  Ed gives us a team pep talk as Mark and Goli listen attentively.
Jeff mans the plane
Jeff mans the model Cesna equiped with our GPS-based flight attitude system censors.  When Jeff moves the plane...
Attitude display
...it drives the artificial horizon display in the booth.
Flight map
The right side of our booth's display has our FlightSense software running, showing some simulated flight info in the Oshkosh area.
Mark at the booth
Here's Mark giving a run-through of our product's features to some interested pilots.
I man the plane
We all took turns with the exciting job of moving the plane around.  Most of the people walking by didn't realize that the plane was connected to the display in the booth, so basically we just looked like idiots pretending we were flying a silly model airplane around.  Here's me looking like an idiot....
Lance mans the plane
...and here's Lance looking like a idiot!
Jeff hangs a spoon on his nose
Even when we weren't moving the plane around, some of us still did pretty well in the idiot impersonation department.  Here's Jeff displaying his talent at hanging a spoon on his nose.
Ed hangs a spoon on his nose
Ed appears to have a similar talent!
Lance drives the convertable
Lance forked over the extra $5 and rented a convertible during the trip.  He also go stuck carting the model airplane back to SF and the only way it would fit in the car was with the top down.  Unfortunately for Lance, it rained the day he drove back to Milwaukee to catch his plane.  So I can just imagine people saying, "Hey!  There's that guy who thought he was flying that plane at the airshow.  What's he doing with the top down in a rainstorm?  What an idiot!"  :-)
B17 on the ground.
What airshow would be complete without some airplanes!  Here's a B-17 bomber taxiing to take off.
B17 landing
Here's the same B-17 coming in for a landing.
Concorde
The Concorde was at the show for several days and was VERY LOUD!!!
F-104 Starfighter
Here's an F-104 Starfighter, which was also VERY LOUD!!!
F4U Corsair
There were also a lot of WWII airplanes in the Warbirds section.  Here's an F4U Corsair.
P-51 Mustang
And here's a P-51 Mustang.
Parachutist with a flag
That's a big flag!
