High school

College: First Year . Second Year

I went to high school at Mission San Jose High School, in Fremont.  I guess I didn't do a whole lot while I was there.  I played on the tennis team for two years.  That's about it, though.  Some of the things I remember most from high school are:

  • Sab.  He got me really interested in science.  He has got to be one of the most inspiring high school teachers I've ever met.  I especially remember the one time he fooled us all with an explosion.  He filled up a water bottle with hydrogen and oxygen gas, and he got this one guy Shad to hold a candle up to the opening.  OMG, it was hella scary, and hella funny.

Ok, so now I go to school at UC Berkeley. There's a lot of people here and its pretty fun sometimes, I guess.  A lot of people from Mission came to Berkeley. The picture to the left is of Sather Gate, where a whole lot of people walk by everyday.  So, people like to do things over there.  Like, all sorts of things.  I don't think he's in the picture, but some afternoons, if you go a little bit past the left column of the gate, there's this angry guy there.  He had like, blue hair before, but I'm not sure if he still does.  He just stands there and rants about stuff.  People stand around and watch him because they think its funny to see an old man swearing and yelling at the top of his voice.

Sometimes when I walk by Sather Gate, I see these people singing

there.  They sound pretty good.  One of the groups is called "The Overtones."  Audrey sings with them, and I stop sometimes to listen for a few minutes.

One thing I found out when I got to Berkeley was that school is pretty hard.  There's a lot of smart people, and a lot of them can kick my butt when it comes to test-taking time.  I got decent grades, but nothing stellar.  Finals week can be especially rough.  I think that sometimes during finals, the inside of the library can look like that picture of Sather Gate up there.  The library gets packed with so many people and it gets so noisy.  Jason calls it "Main Stacks Mall."  It can get pretty distracting if you're trying to study because of all the socializing that's going on.

Well my freshman year I lived in Unit 1, Freeborn Hall.  I lived in room 809.  If you look in the picture that's the room on the top floor, second from the left.  It was pretty fun, living there.  I made a lot of friends in the dorms, and we spent a lot of time goofing off together.  I don't see quite so many of them too often anymore, mainly because we all live in different areas now.  There are a few pictures of the people I lived with on another page.  Everyone thought the food was pretty bad when we lived there, but now in retrospect, I don't think its that bad.

I headed into Berkeley planning on doing pre-med, possibly majoring in MCB.  I took a whole lot of MCB pre-req's, and then decided to do CS instead.  So I'm a little behind, but I'm almost ready to apply now.  I have to take just one more math class and one more CS class before I can apply. CS classes are pretty time consuming, I think.

This is Soda Hall, where the CS department is.  I spent a lot of time in that building working on my homeworks and projects.  The actual labs where I did all my work is a floor underground.  There are no windows and no fresh air.  It can get pretty gloomy down there if you have to be there for a while.

But the building looks nice from the outside, right?

CS classes I've taken so far:
