Scripps has been awarded a grant from the
Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Foundation in the first phase of their $20.9
million initiative, Pursuing Perfection: Raising the Bar for Health
Care Performance
The first phase of the initiative involves $50,000 planning grants
for the 12 selected organizations. At the end of a seven-month planning
phase, up to six of the organizations will receive grants between $1.5
million and $3.5 million to help implement their plans. The aim is to
transform the way health care is delivered in San Diego County and
throughout the nation; improving patient outcomes, reducing medical
errors and respecting patient needs and preferences.
Scripps’ two pilot programs will focus on cardiac patients and
patients with diabetes. If selected as a final grant recipient, five
additional programs will be developed.

Inside Scripps July 2001 – Article on PET Imaging
The July issue of Inside Scripps has a feature article written by
Johanna Blevins. This article "PET Scan Provides New Medical
Option" explained how PET imaging helped a patient with
colorectal cancer.
Effective July 1, 2001, HCFA’s Medicare PET coverage will be
expanded to include:
Head & Neck cancer, esophageal cancer, lung cancer/lung
nodules, colorectal cancer, lymphoma, melanoma, myocardium viability
and pre- surgical localization of epileptic focus.
