Greetings and welcome! Kimiye Tipton maintains the The NX Guide Online and the The NX Frequently Asked Questions Online for the denizens of the Internet. NX IN SYNDICATION!!!News Flash! April 5, 1999: The A&E schedule has been changed to Monday-Friday at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. ET, 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. PT.Northern Exposure began reruns on the A&E cable network starting Oct. 6, 1997, with the series completing on Feb. 26, 1998. The series began its seventh run of 110 episodes in April 2000. A&E has made no announcement that they'll stop airing the show at this time! The schedule has been changed to Monday-Friday at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. ET, 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. PT. The same episode is shown twice each day. The shows are mostly in original broadcast order except for holiday-related ones, which are delayed to the next appropriate holiday ("Thanksgiving" ran on 11/27/97, "Seoul Mates" on 12/25/97, out of sequence). The sole missing episode, 6.6, "Zarya", was run in sequence the second time around (July 3, 1998). Notice! The hard-to-catch "Thanksgiving" (4.8) is usually shown the day before Thanksgiving, and "Seoul Mates" (3.10) is also shown out of sequence on Christmas Eve. Where to get the latest newsThe What's New page is a regularly updated feature on what the stars are doing now, (last update 5/27/00-- our cast members keep busy!) while the What Was page gives some info on the end of the show, souvenir sources and a request for photos and personal stories of the show. A little historyNorthern Exposure premiered on July 12, 1990, and ended on July 26, 1995, with a total of 110 episodes. No more shows will be made because the sets and props have been sold, the production company has gone out of business, and the cast and crew have gone on to other work. However, the series lives on in people's hearts, and in syndication throughout the U.S. and in many other countries such as Australia, Italy, Japan and Finland, Spain, and South Africa. It just started showing in Ireland this spring. The good news, for those of us with cable in the U.S., is that the Arts and Entertainment Network bought the next round of syndication, and has been showing Northern Exposure five days a week since 1997. Where to get tapes of the showIf you can't find an accommodating friend with a VCR and a cable subscription to A&E, eleven episodes were available on tape from Columbia House, some of which you may be able to find at discount stores (yes, only 11 shows out of the whole 110 are available commercially). You can also check your local video store or an online bookstore like Amazon. A&E is offering all 11 episodes via their web site at the A&E Store. Prices are $79.95 for each set of five shows, and $19.95 for the pilot, about average for all A&E tapes. Otherwise, try visiting the Netnews group alt.tv.northern-exp to see if you can trade copies with some kind soul there. You can read the group at Dejanews.
