Northern Exposure Explained Briefly
Yeah, I guess it was just a television series, but it managed to incorporate an intelligence and a spirit into a comedy that has had no equal. We all actually cared about the characters! It is currently being rebroadcast on A&E, twice -- at 8:00 a.m. again at 2:00 p.m.
What is it About? -- Uprooted New York native and newly titled physician Dr. Joel Fleischman travels to Cicely, Alaska to ride the time-machine we call life for a four year commitment of public service in payment for his medical training. Nothing else will ever be the same for him, for us.
Peppered with land-dwellers, philosophers, native Americans film makers, squabbling couples, rabbis, African Americans, dreams, omens, myths, totem poles (all painted on the dreamscape of this life adventure) rarely left one wanting.
If repeated watching does not move you to want to change your life around, then you have already reached Nirvana, my friend, and won't be back for another spin on this earthly life-carousel.
