some of the earliest remains of prehistoric sites are weapons. But there are also many pottery shards. Once man discovered hunting and farming, a need for objects to hold excesses of both emerged. Perhaps the first fired object was accidently made. A sun dried pot rolling into the campfire, becoming harder and more durable. As other materials became more available and we as a group weren't worrying abaout where our next meal was coming from, pottery also became decorative as well as functional. All of the following examples are stoneware fired at cone, in either a gas or electric kiln.
This is a stoneware bowl, fired at cone 9 in an elecric kiln. Thrown on a wheel, decorated with a thin matt glaze and painted with cobalt.
This is made from porcelin fired in a gas reduction kiln at cone 11. It is glazed with a celedon glaze, red iron and cobalt.
