Monica and Erica and I were in some sort of department/discount store, like a Wal-Mart or Target or something. I think it was probably a Wal-Mark or K-Mart because of the predominantly cool color scheme. Targets are so red that I would have noticed that. Anyway, we were in the toy section and I found these really neat Transformers. They started out as some sort of shell creature, like a clam or an oyster, with a land animal sitting inside of the shell. I remember a maroon clam with a yellowish rhinoceros sitting inside and a dark purple similarly-looking clam with an orange lion in it. Anyway, the shell and animal would transform and combine to form a tall robot. I asked Monica if she would buy me the lion one and she said that she would if I agreed to watch their stuff while she and Erica went outside to go to the bathroom. I agreed and they were on their way.

I wandered over to the magazines department, and it was at this point that the store began to look a lot like the Auburn Hinky Dinky. While looking at the magazines, I found this oversized old-looking book that seemed very familiar. It had a worn brown cover and was about the size of a road atlas (maybe 2 feet tall by 1 foot wide?) and on the cover it read Sleeping Beauty. Then I remembered that this was the alternate version of sleeping beauty that I wasn't allowed to read as a child because there was some nudity in the illustrations.

I started to read it, and it told of how this girl lived in a head of lettuce where everything was perfect. She had everything she needed and would ever need, so she was content. Then one night she dreamt of something golden, and when she woke, she found that there was nothing golden in her lettuce land. She began to grow very unsatisfied with her living conditions, and pleaded to God to let her stray from the lettuce in search of this gold. He let her, but told her that she would not be able to return to the lettuce, because in order for her to explore the world, she would have to be enlarged to the size of other humans.

She wandered from this lettuce patch down this beautiful green rolling hill where she encountered a giant grape tree. This grape tree consisted of a 50-foot tall pale-green trunk and one huge (30 feet long...20-25 foot diameter) grape hanging to the side. She thought that looked good, so she swung her arm and chopped down the grape tree. It fell to the ground, the grape bounced several times, and then everything sort of changed...

The camera view circled around to the other side of the grape where a very small light-yellow duckling was waddling down the hill. A British announcer's voice entered the scene. He said: "The migration of baby ducklings has long been a mystery to duckologists. THe last documented duckling migration was in 1854 by Danish duckologist (I forgot the name). Most contemporary duckologists believe that many ducklings simply ride along (camera leaves the still-waddling duckling and points up to the sky where about 20 or so adult ducks are flying overhead) with their mothers in the secret pouch that all mother-ducks possess (much like kangaroos I guess)."

The duck continued to wander without narration. It came to a small stream, about 2 feet across probably, and a beautiful tree-covered park/garden area. The duck hopped the stream and begand waddling about on the other side. The narration picked up again: "The ducks are the last surivors of the dinosaurs. Millions of years ago, in parks just like these, (at this point, computer generated stegosaurus and brontosaurus images faded in and walked around in the background) ducks and other dinosaurs co-existed. (The ducks's appearance changes as he metamorphosizes into a small neon-green lizard creature that bears a strong resemblance to the duckling) This was because of the duck's pre-historic appearance, which has changed quite a bit since that time. If the duck still looked like this, it is likely that not as many people would keep them as pets, but more people would want them. (I know that doesn't make sense but I swear that's what he said. The background changed, and where there were mountains behind the trees, there was now a row of houses. Two children ran up to the neon-lizard-ducklig)"

Little boy: "Hey look! It's a duck!" Little girl: "Do you think mommy would let us keep it?" Little boy: "I hope so...but do you really want to clean up after a lizard?"
