RELATIVE PERMEABILITY
Magnetic fields permiate different materials by different amounts, for example iron, which is ferromagnetic becomes magnetized itself and so transmits magnetic fields many times better than a vacum. Relative permeability is a measure of the permeability of a material ot magnetic fields relative to that of a vacum u0, so for intsance the flux density at the center of an iron core solenoid will be;

where ui is relative permeability of iron.
