TYPES OF WAVE MOTION.
There are two types of wave motion, transverse (found in ropes, ripple tanks, electromagnetic waves) and longitudinal (found in stretched springs and air.
TRANSVERSE WAVES
Transverse waves have oscillations in their direction of motion.
LONGITUDINAL WAVES
Longitudinal waves have oscillations perpendicular to their motion.
Both of these types of waves however can be modeled with the progressive wave equation., for example a sound wave, can be represeneted by the following graph, with pressure on the y axis rather than displacement.
