This Atlantique loco (4-4-2) was constructed in 1934 from a 29-year old Atlantic (4-4-2) and in trials with a three-car train reached speeds of 96.9 mph. As French law restricted speeds to 75mph maximum, the 317 mile route between Paris & Lyons achieved an average speed of 61.4 mph.
