The underwater cable problem

There is a 10 wire cable laid on the bottom of a river going from one bank to the other. The wire ends on one bank are labeled: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and the wire ends on the other bank are labeled A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J. All wire ends leave the wires exposed but all of the 10 individual wires are of the same color and hence undistinguishable just by looking at them.

You are standing on one bank and you also have a boat that you can use just twice. First to go to the other bank and the second time to return to the bank where you started.

You also have a battery and an electric bell.

The question is "How to find the correspondence between the number and letter marked wire ends using the tools at hand?"
