06.19.03    I DO, I DO
yesterday, i received my fifth marriage proposal! he proposed in allan gardens, which would have been romantic had he not been homeless and asking me to marry him only because i gave him a chocolate chip cookie.

06.16.03    ONLY FOOLS FALL IN LOVE
those two of you that are following the epic saga that is my love life will be amused at the introduction of D, the fourth variable following in the venerable footsteps of A, B, and C.

A is out of the picture; a fond memory, really, thought of only when his theme song comes on. B stubbornly refuses to respond. there's only so much unanswered pining a girl can do before realizing the inevitable truth. C was a fleeting dirty-sex-in-the-stairwell fantasy. and now D. i don't long and yearn for him the way i did for B; i'd cling to B even if i were hypothermic and he were a column of ice. D is a warm comfort that i like to press against although i don't reach out eagerly with my hands. does this make it any less valid? these are my world issues; it's pretty sad.

06.06.03    SELF-THERAPY
nothing is worse than having an unrequited crush on some idiot boy, other than having an unrequited crush on some idiot boy and finding out that your ex is already dating.

enter: daniel et daniel
act three: i had another so-crusty-it-hurts half-baguette, this time with grilled chicken and tzatziki. tzatziki almost non-existant but that was fine; the chicken was moist and full of savoury goodness with a touch of cajun-esque spice.
second in line was the corn and avocado salad, also excellent. chewy roasted corn with avocado chunks and grape tomatoes, highlighted by cilantro, spicy paprika and pungent red onion. some of the avocado was just underripe and a little too much red onion; i would have chosen something milder like vidalia but i suppose they chose the red for the colour.
lastly, and bestly, was the fruit tart. a tender cookie crust with smooth, perfectly sweet custard topped with a plethora of balancingly semi-sour (or as sharon likes to say, 'bracing') fruits: strawberry, kiwi, blueberries, red currants, and two cantaloupe balls which, upon closer inspection, turn out to be ground cherries (lovely orange bursts of soapy muskiness).

daniel et daniel; i'm in love. mange à trois?

06.02.03    YUM
i've waxed slightly poetic about daniel et daniel, the ready-to-eat take-out catering place down the street with the fantastic bakery case. it's the toronto equivalent of kingston's pan chancho although slightly less fusion-cuisine oriented. previously, i got a cheesecake brownie which i subsequently gave to a panhandler.
today i had their eggplant, goat cheese, and pesto baguette. it was tasty and flavourful, and although the eggplant was a little shy, there was a lovely taste of oncoming summer in the accompanying veg. it was served on a ficelle so crusty it hurt the roof of my mouth -- just like in france. go; it's on the north side of parliament & college.
