Prosthetics

This is a selection of photos of prosthetic monsters created by Mike Strick for a charity childrens' party organised by The Variety Club of Great Britain.

"Werewolf"

A full head and torso werewolf costume. Details on how it was made appear below.

"Jaws"

A three quarter head latex prosthetic"

"Fish Man"

A full body costume of an aquatic looking alien warrior. The face was radio controlled from a controller built into the costume's hand.

"Death"

A full-face latex prosthetic with dental acrylic teeth.

"Body Burst"

An entertaining head and body costume showing alien creatures emerging from an unfortunate human. The foam rubber and latex head was divided into part human, part emerging alien, with the wearer seeing through one eye of each face. One arm was false, made from foam rubber, freeing the wearer's real arm to operate the "chestburster".

Some Familiar Faces

Costumes based on characters from films

"Edward Scissorhands"

A fairly simple latex makeup job. The costume was made complete by the hands, which were fully articulated. They were built mainly from fibreglass and plastic sheeting. Bike brake cables were connected to the fingers, so that they extended and retracted as the hand moved.

"Terminator"

A half-face latex prosthetic. The eye was illuminated with a small red neon bulb. The gun was built from wood, plastic tubes and copper piping.

Carnival Masks

Papier mache masks made for a parade.

"Beastie"

A fairly simple mask built on a wire frame.

"Skull"

The jaw was articulated and the eyes mounted so that they rolled around in the sockets. The back of the mask locked onto the front using small hooks, completely enclosing the wearer's head.

"Wolf"

Another mask with an articulated jaw.
