"An ACT for the Naturalization

of Don Gabriel Sistara

Whereas Don Gabriel Sistera, a native of Barcelona in the Kindgom of Spain, now resident in New London, hath by his petion preferred to this Assembly prayed to be admitted to the privileges of his Majesty's subjects within this Colony:

Therefore

"Be it enacted by the Governor, Council and Representatives, in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,

That the said Gabriel Sistera, having taken the oaths of allegiance, supremacy and asjuration by law appointed, be, and he is hereby declared to be, naturalized and entituled to all the privileges, immunites and advantages of his Majesty's English subjects born within this Colony, as fully and effectually, to all intents, constructors and purposes whatso- ever, as though he, said Gabriel Sistera, had been born within the dominions of and subject to the King of Great Britain: excepting only such privileges and immunities as by law are not competent to foreigners who have been or are naturalized."


Captain Don Lazaro José Gabriel Sistaire Jr. , (marked as Sistarre, in the 1790 Connecticut Census-Marlon Sustaire) was born May 1, 1725 in Barcelona, Spain. His parents were Don Gabriel Sistare Sr.and Marie Mitzavila. In Barcelona he married Maria Francesca Molas and had one son, Gabriel, Jr.III, who subsequently came to America in 1772 with a Captain De Shon. Captain Gabriel Sistarie's wife Maria could not come over, so he divorced her and remarried an English girl named Elizabeth Beebe, daughter of Nathaniel Beebe, and Lydia Griffin, born about 1710, who was son of Nathaniel Beebe , born 1669, and Elizabeth Wheeler, born 1670 .Elizabeth Beebe was born about 1756 in Noew London, Connecticut? and died 11 September 1798 in New London , Connecticut.Captain and Elizabeth had 7 children, which together with Gabriel Jr. makes 8 branches of the family.

1. Captain Don Lazaro José Gabriel Sistaire II of Barcelona, Spain, own ship was the "Montserrete". His last born son Thomas or 2. John Thomas Sistare left New London, Connecticut sailed South and commanded his own ship "La Maindroite" (or in English translation would be "The Left Hand");was shipwrecked off Charleston, South Carolina. 3. Sea Captian, Captain Leonard Vallum Sistare,born on 29 Mar 1798, son of Joseph Sistare (1774-1829) and Nancy Way, (1774-?), it was Joseph who was the second born son of Capt. Don Lazaro José Gabriel Sistaire II; and Leonard commanded the "good ship Oglethorpe" of Savannah, Georgia . Leonard may have died in Savannah, Georgia and I have no death dates for him at this time. by Carol Lorraine Sutton, January 7, 1999.

"Upon the Petition of Ebenezer Holt Junr of New London in New London County

showing to this Assembly that he was appointed Guardian to Francis Sistare and Thomas Sistare two of the children of Captain Gabriel Sistare, late of said New London Deceased, and that he expended considerable Sums of Money out of his own private Estate, for the use and benefit of said Boys & that at the request of said Minors made to the Judge of Probate for New London District, Daniel Starr of New London was appointed Guardiam to said Minors in the room of the Memorialist, and that the Accounts of the Memorialist were then adjusted by said Judge, when there appeared to be due said Holt for advancements by him made for the support and Education of said Minors the Sum of $198,91 that is the Sum of $112,25 on account of said Frank and the Sum of $86,66 for said Thomas, and there-upon praying this Assembly to authorize and empower the Judge of Probate for New London District to Audit and examine the Accounts for advancements & by him made on account of said Minors, and on the Sums apppearing to have been made for the benefit of said Minors, that said Judge may thereupon order so much of the real Estate of said Minors sold as will raise the sums/

(begin page 266) so found to have been advanced for the use and benefit of said Minors and the aails appropraited accordingly & as Per Memorial on file Dated the 12th of May 1801. Whereupon----

Resolved by this Assembly thatt the Judge of Probate for New London District be, and he hereby is impowered to audit and adjust the accounts of said Ebenezer Holt Jr. for advancements by him made while Guardian to Francis Sistare and Thomas Sistare on their account for support & and upon said Accounts appearing to be reasonable and for the benefit of siad Minors as will raise the sum which shall be found respectively due form them to said Holt and the avials thereof be appopriated for paymnet of said Holts Demand." END
