2000 UP High School Team Championship

The 2000 UP High School Team Championship was held on Saturday, March 26, at Forest Park High School. There were 10 teams that competed in the event. Trophies for first, second, third, and fourth place teams were awarded. First place grade trophies were also awarded. Iron Mountain's team won first place with a score of 3½ - ½. Forest Park A, Republic-Missigammee, and West Iron B tied for second place with a score of 2½ - 1½. Through a playoff Forest Park A took the second place trophy and Republic-Missigammee took the third place trophy. West Iron B took the fourth place trophy. There were many playoffs for the grade trophies. Robert Wall won the 12th grade trophy. Ken Ceterski won the 11th grade trophy. A.J. Alexa won the 10th grade trophy. Brandon Caraso won the 9th grad trophy. Nathan Colberg won the 8th grade trophy. Kevin Freeman won the 7th grade trophy. Jake Truitt won the 5th grade trophy. Rob Sawaski won the 4th grade trophy.

2000 Ramada Inn Open

The 2000 Ramada Inn Open was held in the Ramada Inn at Marquette, Michigan, on April 15 and 16. The tournament started on time and ran smoothly. The time limit was game in two hours. There were no adjourned games and everyone had an hour to eat, rest, watch the Red Wings game, etc. between rounds. There were fifteen players at the tournament. There were people all the way from Sault St. Marie and Milwaukee in the tournament. Rob Roos won first place with a score of 4 - 1. There was a tie for second place between Ken Ceterski, Bob Bergman, and Bob John with a score of 3½ - 1½. There was a tie for second place in class B between Tom Ceterski and Greg Nahwahquaw with a score of 2½ -2½. Jim Mitchell won second place in class C with a score of 3 - 2. Kenn Filkins won the top class D, E, and unrated prize with a score of 2 - 3. Martha Ceterski played house person.
