I carve questions out of stone
Cracks in the marble surface
Tell my hands which way to go
I shed my pants without inhibitions
I want to show my "true self" to the world
Transformations through intimacy
I get as far as the sliding glass door
Before a neighbor screams
They will never understand me
And I will never understand them
So, I just smile and wave
They turned their heads
Like they’re ashamed
I’m the one naked
Why are they embarrassed?
Who knows?
Who cares?
Life is too short
For such petty speculations
I return to my marble stature
Well, for now just a big slam of marble
But all the possibilities are here
Just need to chip away what isn’t needed
And leave the rest
There’s a whole world in stone
Actually, there are worlds everywhere
But hardly anyone ever notices them
I watch an ant carrying a dead comrade
Across my floor
Do ants feel?
Will his family grieve?
I wonder if they consider the universe?
Are we Gods to them or maybe Satan?
Are there other beings far away watching us
Ones that consider our existence
About as significant as we consider the ants?
