Bed of Fire
Why is she sleeping all alone
in a bed of fire
with a heart of stone?
She swoops down the street like a predatory bird
Feathers all ruffled but with her talons aglow
In her head she wonders
if she is good or bad
Happy or sad?
She doesn’t really know
and is always petrified
her thoughts are being overheard
So, she just follows the rules
that she has learned
Never concern about their validity
or any opinions of her own
It’s safe inside her little home
Everything is structured
and chaos is unknown
Men, she feels, could only clutter up
such a perfect little world
Better to just sleep alone
In a bed of fire
with a heart of stone
