How do you protect someone from themselves?
it’s something you just can’t do

You can only helplessly observe
the neglect and torture
they inflict upon themselves
and feel the torment
they put you through

You wonder how anyone could be so selfish
and waste away so foolishly
but deep inside you understand
it’s not what they mean to be

You become filled with self-loathing
and feel you just can’t cope
For surely if you were a true friend
you could provide them with some hope

Your angry
turns toward rage
And you see...
you’re now making matters worse

You feel you’re sinking with them
and neither of you have a rope

So how do you protect someone
from themselves?

It’s something you just can’t do

You can only pray they find their way
While you protect
what's left of you
