Rabbit Cage
I see them shuffling
along the streets
Eyes fixed dreamily down
upon their feet
They are alive
but unaware
Every step brings them closer
to their own private hell
Thousands of whispers whirl
inside the empty air
Unheard for a million years
In the distance
it’s starting to form
The final storm
The winds
have changed
Life fades
like a dying ember
in the rain
My neighbor waves
I look up
and feel ashamed
How many more days
inside this rabbit cage?
