Chinatown: Where’s the Rice? (Chicago Part 3/?)
Sunday, February 18, 2007 Sis Johanna and I parted ways in the late afternoon. Nick and I continued to drive around Chicago, comparing it to NYC. (Manhattan is an island and builds close, Chicago is on a shore and sprawls). We drove up and down Lake Shore Drive, on through to the Skyway to Indiana. (EZ Pass works in Illinois!) There’s a building that looks just like the Sears Tower. At first we thought it was a mini me version of the Sears Tower. We find out later that the Sears Tower was based on the Hancock building. We stayed out past sunset to see the City Skyline light up. Then we drove around into the city. After awhile, Nick said he was looking for rice; the soup and pizza was just not it for him. Chinatown during the Chinese New Year sounded like a great idea … Golden Pig! We made plenty of wrong turns before we found the place, and just like any Chinatown, no available parking. Nick leaves me in our SUV to stand while he checks out the eateries. I spy on a family with plastic bags, so I go stalk them until they get into their minivan. I watch their wheels turn as they to get out of their icy spot. So glad for 4 wheel drive! And mmmm… Soy duck and seafood veggies. Eating rice is good. We drove around a bit more. We talked to Brod Jess on the phone. Not enough time, we weren’t able to meet. Maybe next time, with a not-so-spur-of-the-moment trip. 2007-02-24 19:34:00 GMT
