The sun climbs ever onward
Into a flaming sky
The clouds appear as cotton wool
To the likes of you and I

As I look up I wonder
Is there anybody there
Hiding in the uuniverse
Travelling somewhere

Someone to answer questions
Like who, and where, and what
Or what the hell we're doing here
Perhaps somebody forgot

To finish off the jigsaw
Or add the missing link
We'd have to see the Captain
Or the ship must surely sink

Someone must have the answer
And surely they must know
When we are finished here on Earth
Is there somewhere else to go?

Or are there more besides us
In the galaxy of space
More mortals who are just like us
Maybe another race

Just as confused as I am
I'll bet they're wondering too
If anyone is out there
Apart from me and you

If he can find the answer
Perhaps He'll let me know
If when I'm through on planet Earth
There's somewhere else to go.

Mere Mortals
