Bedtime

When Eventide stills the dreamy lea,
And moths begin their dance,
Then hiveward heads the busy bee,
And damsels yearn romance,
When clover leaf does inward curl,
And ghostly nightjars purr,
As dormant hedgehogs then uncurl,
The screech owls cry and stir,
Gone the sun, into the west,
The brooklet lulled in mist,
God's life settles down to rest,
Nestled kiddies kissed,
Tired mothers curtains draw,
And wrought bolts jamward slide,
Fathers smiling, nightcaps pour,
His mongrel by his side,
The close of day, a gentle scene,
With all your chores achieved,
In eider on can rest and dream,
Another day received.
