Alas poor Sonic, I knew thee well...

The SEGA Master System

This system I picked up several years ago at a garage sale. It is, perhaps, the most used of the old systems in our home. Mom loves to play Shanghai, so this system stays with the newer systems in the living room entertainment center. I must admit, the games are pretty fun, and using the light gun with Gangster Town reminds me of the old Telestar. Compared to the NES, the games do not feel as 'professional' as, lets say, Mario Brothers, but the gameplay is there. All in all, a good pick-up.

The SEGA Genesis and CD

Their best system, in my opinion. The Sonic games helped to propel SEGA to the forefront of the console industry. We bought all the Sonic games sight unseen, and were never disappointed. The CD games were cool, especially Sonic. Unfortunately, no other games really caught our fancy, except Bubsy, which was cool. We also bought the 'Dragon's Lair' port in a fit of nostalgia, and had fun reliving the old arcade days.

The SEGA Genesis Power Base Converter

This little gem plugs into the Genesis console and allows one to play their Master System carts and cards. I found this one hanging in a ziplock baggie, reduced from $24.99 to $5.99... Heck, I couldn't pass THAT up! I think this was part of the good amount of thought that went into the Genesis. Making the new machine backward compatible helps one to upgrade to the new machine, as you know your older games will still work. I'm not sure if there were any games that might have had problems, maybe someone out there will clue me in, and I'll post it here.

The SEGA Genesis Mega Mouse

Yep, just like it sounds, its a mouse for playing Genesis games... it says that it make playing adventure games easier. I can imagine it would, especially for those of us who are used to them with PC games.

The SEGA Game Gear

This nifty little handheld unit just came into my possession, but my brother has had one for awhile. He only has one game (the pack-in Sonic), but he played it to death. I bought this one at a pawn shop, got it home and it didn't work... luckily, they had a second one. They exchanged it with no questions, and it works great. Games for this unit are cheap and plentiful... the best thing for expanding one's collection! I also have the ac adapter, the screen magnifier, and a carrying case.

The SEGA 32X Expansion

Sega, in its infinite wisdom, released this expansion to the Genesis to keep pace with the market. They released games for a short time, and then... BAMM!... they stopped supporting the 32X and released the Saturn. This pissed off many of the 32X owners, and soon the system passed away. I purchased the expansion for $15 and plan to pick up the games which are going real cheap...

The SEGA Saturn

Why is this the only new system I do not own? Simple. SEGA did not release a Sonic game with it. In my opinion, this is why they are now dying a slow death at the hands of Sony and Nintendo. I will eventually pick one up, at a bargain price, just to keep the collection as complete as possible. (2/4/98): The price of the system is dropping rapidly, and game prices are dropping too. I picked up VR and VF2 for under $6.00 new. (9/19/98): Well, I knew that my patience would pay off. I picked up a Saturn for $20.00, and have finally got to play my games! =)
