Bron Haul is where I live. It's an old smallholding at an elevation of 1000 feet on the Eastern edge of the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales. It's a wonderful place to live unless you are allergic to sheep.

Bron Haul was semi-derelict for quite a while until it was bought by a couple escaping the rat race in 1965. They subsequently published several books about the joys and hardships of living the simple life in the countryside. Details are at the bottom of the page if you want to check them out.

These pages are about Bron Haul, North Wales and my various interests. Visit 'The Cowshed' to discover my principal interest. Books About Bron Haul

The author of all of these works is Elizabeth West:

• 'Hovel In The Hills'.

  Published by Faber & Faber in 1977 and reprinted many times. This is the 'famous' book and only a cynic would claim that it is a little prone to artistic exaggeration.

• 'Garden In The Hills'.

  Out of print but available through libraries. My favourite as it has photos and maps of what was grown (and still is!) where.

• 'Kitchen In The Hills'.

  Also out of print. A book of recipes created at Bron Haul.
