I went to the Big K again this year, it was faboulous as always! For those touring the region DO NOT MISS the Temple of Apollo at Bassae, it looks like the Parthenon in Athens only smaller and is perched on the top of a hill with great views (this is a hidden secret!) it is in Messinia, its hard to get to but get a relative or hire a car and get t ere, the towns along the route are gorgeous too- Andritsena and Semnitsa, well worth seeing. Also, if you dont know you can GET TO THE ISLANDS DIRECT FROM KALAMATA! Many guide books dont tell you this but there are ferry connections from the port of Kalamata to Kithera, Antikithera and CRETE. From Crete you can get to Santorini or Rhodes etc.
