Fear
       Fear

                 I.
           Fear is everywhere.
It controls us always, except when we
Momentarily overcome it, or when we
Have no reason to be afraid.
Fear is in every person's reluctance
To talk to the one that he or she really
           Wants to.
Fear is in every person's discomfort with another person.
Fear is the squirrel running up the tree.
Fear is the young man who sits alone in his room,
When he could be talking to the one he most wants to talk to.
Fear is intolerance of other races,
           Religions, sexual orientations, lifestyles,
           Other people.
Fear is irrational, in most cases, yet it wins.
It wins the battles of concience that people have with
           Themselves.
           Fear is in everyone.
           It is strong.
                      II.
As strong as Love? Some would say stronger.
Others would claim that Love can conquer Fear.
           Which is correct?
           Fear or Love?
           Which is stronger?
Neither. Both. As the situation dictates.
Fear and Love, two sides warring eternally,
Neither able to win forever, but each able to win
           Victories, at times.
                      III.
           Fear is the enemy.
Fear is the voice in you head,
           And it controls you.
           Fear is the silencing machine,
           And it controls you.
Fear will drag you down, use you up.
           Fight the fear!

Thanks to Trent Reznor for some of the words of the last stanza.
