The Evil One

The Evil One

A dark, dark mis crept over the city, letting no light through even though it was July, and Noon. This mist was unnatural, so thick it could be felt. In the city, It was ready. Finally It had gathered enough power to creat this mist. It couldn't stand the light of day nor the dark of night. It could only survive in this half-light that It had created.

And now, It was hunting.

It found its first victim, a male and a large one at that, in perfect physical condition. It stalked him silently, invisibly. And then, in an instant, It enveloped the man effortlessly, adding his power to its own.

It roamed invisibly. Oh It could be seen, but only by a few. These few also have the power to defeat It. If one of these looked at It, he or she would have seen only a vague, mist-like shape, spectral in appearance and skeletal in form. It had found one of these Gifted Ones, people that see things that most people miss, even after having them pointed out by the Gifted Ones. She was in a brightly lit structure, so It lie in wait across the street. She left the building and saw It immediately. She knew at once that It was waiting for her. It sprang for her, but she had already re-entered the building.

No matter. It could wait. What was another few hours or even days to one who had waited 2000 years? It gained in power by consuming other passersby. It waited, sensing that the Gifted One had not fully mastered her powers. And then, by chance on the third day of its vigil, another Gifted One entered its sensing range. This Gifted One was getting closer. It would not even have to move!

It was then that the woman chose to leave her shelter and confront It. A bad move, It thought. She stands no chance against my power! It struck quickly, but not quickly enough. She dodged and struck back with her limited power, hurting It badly. It struck again, its cold mist-like body chilling her to the bone. She raised her defences, creating a bright light. It was blinded, but needed no sight to find her and bear down on her now nearly spent form. The battle was nearly over, but just then the other arrived, and with incredible switness struck It hard. It turned quickly to deal with the new threat.

And was destroyed as the woman spend the last of her energy on one final, desperate assault.

It was banished once again to the spirit world, doomed to wait another 2000 years. Or more. But this didn't matter.

THE EVIL ONE IS ETERNAL.

Chilling eh? :)
