The Maniac

                    The Maniac

The rain was falling in sheets on this cold, dark night.
The wind was blowing like the boreal wind from hell.
The guard turned and looked at the clock inside the building, and
saw that his replacement would be coming in about 20 minutes. "Damn",
he thought, "20 more minutes of this screaming wet version of all
that is horrible.
Suddenly he heard a noise off to his right and around the corner.
The noise was the scream of metal on metal that can only be the
sound of car brakes being forced beyond their physical limits.
The man got to the sight, and, miraculously, the driver was not only
alive, but was getting out under his own power! "Are you all right?"
the guard asked; he got a bullet for his answer.
The maniac ran towards the building like a bat going after its prey.
The guard, who was shot in the arm, ran after the maniac, but it
was too late; the maniac had already entered the building and was
standing with his back to the door.
This was his last mistake. The guard took out his gun and fired.
The bullet streaked towards the maniac at well over the speed of
sound; The maniac was dead before he hit the ground.
The guard carefully unlocked the door with his good arm.
Seeing that the maniac was dead, the guard called the police,
and also an ambulance. The police were responsive, and showed up within a few minutes.
"What happened?" the policeman asked. The guard told his story, and
added that his replacement should be here by now.
Turning around, the guard saw for the first time the face of his
assailant and screamed as loud as a volcano- and then some.
The dead man, was his replacement.
