The city was asleep. Almost. The mage was awake. As were his enemies. And powerful mages have powerful enemies. But the enemies were only mortals, possessing none of the mage's myriad of powers. Still they were to be respected, and, perhaps, feared.
"Let's go.", said the leader, "He should be there by now." The others nodded and piled into the van, loading their weapons with audible clicks. They drove through the city, arriving at the bar, a favourite hangout of the mage.
The mage sat in the bar, aware of everyone around him, their thoughts, their feelings, their intentions. "Get him!" The leader yelled as he and his men opened fire. The mage grinned as the bullets went harmlessly into the floor. With several deft motions, he downed the leader and two of the others. The remaining gunman pulled the trigger, only to discover that his clip, which he had thought was full, was only half full, now empty. One punch felled him too. The mage calmly strolled over the leader and picked him up by his shirt. "Who sent you?" The leader just smiled and said "I'll never tell you , mage." "You just did." the mage said with a self-satisfied grin. "Tell your boss Hirohito Musayami doesn't die easily." the mage said as he rendered the leader unconscious with one more punch. These enemies wouldn't be bothering the mage again. For now.
