My uncle was a helldiver and part of the Marianas Turkeyshoot. He was one of the pilots who didn't come back. His navigator was from New Jersey (that's all we know about him). My uncle was Bob Sterling off, we think, the Bunker Hill. I just got a memo ial marker for him and mounted it on his father's headstone. There was no marker for him. If anyone knew Uncle Bob, please contact me. He deserves to be remembered. Thanks.

Comments:
My grandfather, Francis Gay Smith, served on the Jupiter before it was turned into the Langley. He was a CPO who had started in the Navy around 1890's and served for 25 years. He served during the Spanish-American War, WW1, and also took part in the Gre t White Fleet when it was sent around the world. He tried to re-up when Pearl Harbor was attacked, but was sent home as being to old. He died in 1953 so i never got to see him or hear his stories, but my father has told me lots about his Dad. My questi n is; How do i go about finding out about my grandfather's offical records? I am trying to write a history of my families service(I know that we fought in the War of 1812 and every conflict since them)for my father(Korea,USAF)and for my sons. Anybody ou there has any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
