I Dreamed of Land...

by Jumar Vencilao
(of Davao City, Philippines), October 2000

I dreamed of land,
where I can stand
where i share
my heart and hand.

i will keep this place..
...a secret one
and humbly share it to..
...my only son.

But I forsee that storms..
...will come
and take this dream..
...and left me none.

 So, I will live
In hate and grieve.
But this will come to end,
for all is possible when you believe.

 And now I stand
In this land.
Free again to spread my arms,
to rule this place, once..
...my dream, forever
in my land.

This poem is about the Filipinos and their land. The pronoun (I) here, stands for the Philippine ancestors. They long for peaceful land and where they can (stand) or settle and share their (heart) means they’re willing to share thier love and (hands) willing to protect it from intruders. They will keep the island Philippines for themselves and for their (son) the next generations.

But here comes the (storms) Spanish, American, and Japanese who steal their (dream) land and abuses most of their resources and left nothing for them. So, they live in hate and sorrow, but still they believed that this will come to an end.

And after how many years and decades of sufferings again they stand and atlas free to do anything to they wanted, to their own land.

By the way my name is Jumar Vencilao, i’m 19 years old and studying at the University of South Eastern Phil. and taking up BS Computer Engineering.
