BIRTHDAY POEM

by:   Alura_

I turn on my beeper so my friends can reach me
I have no idea what might be on that tv.

I sit, get comfy, take up my place
In my own favourite corner of cyberspace.

My modem screeches with that awful tone
Nobody call me, I won't answer the phone.

My heart pounds, there's an itch in my finger
I wait for those words "connect to server."

My face grins as I hear familiar bings
Hope it won't be a day full of pings.

I have it set to go automatically
Into the best friggin channel in IRC.

I enter #the_writersclub and what do I see?
All my friends saying hello and 'lo to me!

We chat, we write, we sit for hours
Through snow, drought, flood and showers.

Deadlines are near but don't look at the clock
Might as well be here when you have writers' block.

Our members are stuffed full of inspiration...
For you to finish your work "What dedication!"

Friends come and go throughout the day
Always met with hello, goodnight, even hellay!

Work, families, we just talk a bunch
We discuss what we are going to have for lunch.

Coffee is always on usually in a giant IV
The teapot has steeped and there are doughnuts "on me".

Don't you dare comment on the crazy typos
We are creative, not perfect, heaven knows.

The webpage can attest that we are great
I know publishers would find us first rate.

My kids are screaming, my isp is slow
*BOOM* "Oh shit, I've got to go!"

We love you when we work and play
To #the_writersclub

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
