TWO PHILOSOPHERS

by:   Jilli

Two philosophers sat, upon their ass's
eyes gazing upward, through their glasses

said the older to the younger, I told you 'twas so
man made the universe high and low
why, we are mighty, strong and so wise
creation was our doing, I tell you no lies

look at all we have been, and made in our day
technology rules, we planned it this way
his arm swept grandly from side to side
claiming ownership, far and wide

now that you know, you see our cause
is to save the world before it falls
the intellectuals ego swelled, and so did his head
as he looked at the younger with each word he said

whilst the younger man gazed about concerned
considering the facts, he inwardly burned
the younger, to the older said his voice clear and bold
I've been listening to all that I've been told

but haven't intellectuals and philosophers, I've read
always claimed the glory of what you just said.
wasn't socrates and plato here in the earth's prime
and hasn't there been others since the beginning of time

a span of millions of years, or so philosophers do say
to correct all the wrongs right down to our day
yet I look around today and what do I see
the world's a mess, so don't lie to me.

technology's our savior I've heard you boast
in all of history it's power is foremost.
your head swells and your chest expands
your words get longer as you wave your hands

but will technology today get people off drugs
unite broken families with loving hugs
tell me how you created just the first man
did your words form his brain or his hands

was technology present as creation was done
as the wind was set and the earth was formed
and will it now .... save the day
feed the starving before they waste away.

is your intellect working to find help for those
that have no homes, no food or clothes.
have you philosophers thus found a way
to stop man dying, I ask in dismay.

no, spare me your words so grand and confusing
while I lend a hand to the battle we're losing
'masses' of people who can't help themselves
that don't understand your words or your wealth

who were cold last night sleeping on ground
their pockets empty, no shelter found
let my time be spent helping today
finding life's answers along my way.

no intimidating words or phrases I use
but deeds of kindness is what I choose.
your words have power their impact is strong
but they can do little if standing alone.

it's true that technology has it's place
in our world today, it quickens our pace.
intellectuals too are needed a lot
to solve the problems technology's got.

but I can make the world a far better place
if I lend a hand to the human race.
just a man am I humble and sincere
seeing injustice, pain and fear

wishing philosophy could settle the score
that our technology wouldn't start wars
so I won't join you to expond your theories
the problems we face are just too serious

said the younger philosopher to the older again
I'll be on my way now, take care my friend.
and if ever you meet someone in need
for more than your words, send them to me.
