EXAMINING THE HEART
By: Bob Bearden aka Thon
"What makes you think its Love",
she challenged me to say.
And I could only answer
"Because it feels that way."
"That is not enough," she said,
"Nor does it make a start."
And I, at loss, could only say,
"I feel it in my heart."
"You cannot love who you don't know,"
she dared my to defy.
And I can not refute her claim,
no matter how I try.
"Confused by your emotions"
she diagnosed my heart.
And I could only whisper,
"How can you say its not?"
"How can you say with surety,
this is not real," asked I.
"You may not ask the questions,"
she brushed the query by.
"Only I may put them forth,"
she gave the rules to me.
"And I accept no answers,
'cept those that leave me free."
"And I accept no feelings,
as answers on this test."
She took her coldest stethos out
and held it to my chest.
"Nor are we seeking metaphors,
to justify your claim,"
"No fairy tales and wishful dreams,
or illusions of the same."
"Now cough for me and let me hear,
what's in the chest of you."
And when I did, she smiled and said,
"You merely have the flu."
"Now let me give a shot to you,
and it will help you cope,"
She took syringe and filled it with
an antidote to hope.
