JOURNEY
by: Shona aka Woodwitch
A wild and stony desert is my path
The traverse of the road is rocky and is hard
And ice surrounds my soul at night
Sharp thorns my progress do retard.
I travail this wasteland all alone
No shade will shelter me at noon
And in the night, shivering I step
Wailing my sorrows to a sightless moon.
Sometimes, along the track my soul perceives
The shadow of a fellow pilgrim stepping on
In anguish and in loneliness, I proffer an embrace
But the shadow, merely a mirage, is gone.
At times I am so weary I would fain
Lay down 'til my last breath has me escaped
Never to stumble, bleeding, once again
Spirit scourged and banished, flogged and raped.
Yet something in my essence urges me
Continuing a flagging pace, to creep
In all my anguish and my agony
Until assuaged at last with sleep.
