Better to leave the magma
all it frothed out of us
to the scientists
their sensors and probes
the work of rock building
to planets
eon schooled in the laying down
of fresh sediment
Fault lines shift but
fossils never lie
We are of dermis
too soft to brave the bite
of diamonds pressed from carbon
At the very least
we'll smudge our hands
