No Longer There

You pick up a peach from the grocery pyramid
and it is only one peach,
not lighter or heavier or less bruised
than any other, for there is no other
save the one in your hand.

Your jeans are neither faded nor new,
only of a certain age;
your report card is entirely satisfactory
but written in a language
only you can understand.

There are no hills to climb, no higher places.
If you get there
you simply assume a different space.
Where you were is not lower--
you are no longer there.
