Wings Of Icarus

Was it as William's said
And Bruegel painted,
Icarus with

Wings that worked too well
Flying high over
A farmer

In the field, sweating
Behind his
Plough,

Never looking up to see
The flight of wax
And

Feather wings, never
Getting a chance
To laugh,

But a man, head bent
In practical pursuit.
Icarus

Looking down on him
Behind his plough
Far below

Smiling at slow progress
Across the field,
A trail

Of turned up earth, a
Thin line seen from
Great height

A single scene that let
Icarus fall happily to
The sea.
