undertow

Sometimes
during the day
a forgotten night
rises and crashes
on the shore of his mind
and a memory of her
thrown at his feet
survives.

For a while
she floated on his swell
then he drowned her
watching her mouth,
watching her eyes,
watching her see
change.

Now
all the women
stored within his mind
stir when he thinks of her
and so she pulses
like some
syn-
apse.
