1. Where were you born? I was born in Kingston, New York.
2. If you still live there, where would you rather move to? If you don't live there, do you want to move back? Why or why not? I no longer live there; except for a few months in 1974 have not really lived there since 1966. I would not not want to live there. My brother lives in a suburb of Kingston and we would like to be able to visit each other without quite so long a drive; also, the Hudson River is a scenic area and it is an easy trip into the Catskill Mountains... but, other than that, there is no compelling reason to live there. Kingston is a tired and decaying town, seedy, run-down, lacking in significant educational and cultural opportunities.
3. Where in the world do you feel the safest? I suppose I feel safest at home, in my neighborhood, in my town. It's probably more like where would I not feel safe? Most cities of any size have neighborhoods where it may not be wise for a stranger to walk down the street and I suppose I would not feel safe in those circumstances. I am not especially comfortable on ships and would much rather travel by air. I'm also not fond of heights and so would not feel very safe, say, working as a window-washer on a high-rise office tower.
4. Do you feel you are well-traveled? Well... fairly well-travelled, especially since taking my current job (almost seven years ago). Prior to that, the only other countries I had visited were Canada and England. Since then I have been to Norway and France and Monaco and Austria and Mexico and Australia, as well a number of additional trips to England and Canada... and also visited several more states (including Hawaii, ahhhhh, that was very nice).
5. Where is the most interesting place you've been? Oh, that's just so hard to answer, can't just pick one place. Climbing to the top of the pyramids of the sun and the moon outside of Mexico City was an awesome experience, but so was hiking to the top of Diamond Head... I love the blue of the Mediterranean at Nice... Australia is like an entire world and all I've seen is the Sydney area, would love to visit there again... I really liked Oslo, a harbor that reminded me of home (Rhode Island), the scuptures all around town, the paintings in the art museum... ah but walking around Vienna (very beautiful city) and visiting the Kunsthistorisches Museum (perhaps my favorite art museum in the world)... and closer to home, I'm quite fond of Toronto and Montreal... and even closer, Boston is a fascinating town... However, if I have to pick just one place, I'd have to go with London as being the most interesting place I've been... interesting places to walk, history everywhere, fabulous art museums, awesome medieval architecture, the Thames (the bridges, the boats), lively theatre, not to mention all those pubs (and all of those Chinese and Indian restaurants as well)... I can never tire of London (as Samuel Johnson said "when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life")*.
* The exact quote is: "Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."
