1. What drinking water do you prefer -- tap, bottle, purifier, etc.? Cold. I prefer water to be cold, no matter what its immediate source. At home I simply fill my glass from the tap. That's usually good enough, although on a hot summer day it is nice to toss an ice cube or two into it. Elsewhere (at work, in a car, on an airplane, etc.) I usually drink bottled water. I bring a bottle of water to work with me everyday, but then all day long I refill it from one of those water dispensers that holds a five gallon bottle of spring water. (I will usually drink my original bottle plus at least one full refill, but some days I may refill it two or three times.) We are now moving into the time of year when I try to keep a few bottles of water in the refrigerator at home so I can grab one when I want to go for a run. 2. What are your favourite flavor of chips? [Were today's questions written by a Canadian? British style spelling of "favourite" but "chips" instead of "crisps"] I try to avoid chips because I can eat far too many -- but my favorites are corn chips (especially SunChips)-- although I can consume vast quantities of plain old Wise potato chips -- and I do enjoy those Dorito spicy nacho chips that leave that weird greasy red color on your fingers. 3. Of all the things you can cook, what dish do you like the most? That is a question that is impossible to answer. I do all the cooking in our house (okay, excluding something that someone might cook up just for themselves, I cook ninety-nine point nine percent of meals that will feed two or more people) and I think I make a wide variety of successful dishes. I have a large number of favorites and can't pick just one. I hate questions like this. 4. How do you have your eggs? 1st choice, fried, over easy (especially good with home fries, crisp bacon, whole wheat toast). 2nd choice, scrambled. 3rd choice, omelet. 5. Who was the last person who cooked you a meal? How did it turn out? The last person who cooked me a meal (I assume this excludes meals I cooked) was a chef at The Mews Tavern, this past Saturday (my daughter's birthday) -- fried onion rings as appetizer -- buffalo chicken sandwich -- boneless chicken breast, spicy buffalo style, on a very large sandwich roll with onion and lettuce and tomato and a spicy dressing, served with a large pile of spicy curly fries plus some celery sticks and blue cheese dressing (which I consider mandatory with any buffalo style chicken -- this is a very good pub style restaurant). It was very tasty (as was the Guinness I had with it... and as was the second Guinness *grin*). Okay, so much for the Friday Five... Full lunar eclipse last night. Most of it came between eleven and midnight... I had thought about watching it but I was very tired had gone to bed (and to sleep) a little before eleven. But then Jennifer phoned a few minutes past eleven -- she had been up in Massachusetts (she's seeing a guy who lives there) to see the new Matrix movie (she liked it) and had gotten hung up in traffic around Providence so she was running a bit late on her way to work and so was going to go straight to work without stopping at home and so was calling to say hi and also to say that she was enjoying the view of the eclipse. Nancy decided to go outside and look and by then I was awake enough to get dressed and join her. There were scattered clouds but not enough to obscure the moon -- mostly a pale disk with an amazingly bright rim. We watched for a few minutes and then came back in. And, in addition to the current batch of birthdays making me aware of the passage of time, my very first jounal entry had been about watching a lunar eclipse. A few minutes later Sean came in -- he had taken his girlfriend to see a performance of Chicago (the play, not the movie) -- and was delighted to discover that the window by his bed gave him a perfect view of the total phase of the eclipse so he could go to bed but still watch. Today is his birthday; tomorrow is his girlfriend's birthday. Our plan for tonight is to go out to dinner at an Applebee's restaurant (it was Sean's pick, apparently it is a popular place with him and his friends) -- I think it's just going to be the four of us plus his girlfriend -- and then he would like to see the Matix sequel -- which, conveniently enough, is playing in a multiplex in the same shopping center as the restaurant. |
