Chaucer seemed to have very lofty goals when he started writing the Canterbury
tales. Unfortunately, he never finished them, so we have to go with the unfinished list we have.
The tales show a longing to go back to previous times, as Chaucer uses Middle English to tell the story,
it brings back the times when it was truly spoken. The very basis of the story shows
the problem with religion in that people thought that by visiting dead bones, they could score bones with
a living God. I guess things haven't changed that much though.
