From Chains to Wings

(c) 1988 Lions

Bound by an unseen chain
to a world I could not charm.
My love was but a stain,
my heart it did disarm.

A heavy charge on my shoulders weighed,
my life but an unknown pretense.
But the burden down now laid,
and the shadows less intense.

The chain, cut and felled,
no longer holds me to this scar.
I am free, and my spirit is quelled,
like a bird, with wings spread far.
