spotlight on Ponyboy

a poem of hope

(c) 1995 Ponyboy

She needs more than I can give her
More than therps can give her
More than meds can give her
More than the world can give

Too many of us she says
Too many of us to make one...
And she's probably right

After so many years
She still needs to find just what she needs

But always, there is some hope... a drop to spare
A drop to take us to tomorrow

She does the best she can
What more can a friend ask of another
What more could one ask of themselves

Once upon a time
I was strong
I'm not strong anymore

I have hope
But little more
It's hardly enough at times

But we turn the page and lie our heads to rest
Rest not in peace, but in exhaustion, in frustration...
And desperation...

And yet, I have to believe...

There is hope.

The majestic sycamore and chestnut coddle you
in the shadows of their hands
Wildflowers and tall grass fill the empty air
        with their black fragrance
Geese huddle together in whistling winds
awaiting dawns patrol

The monarchs that graced you earlier with their blazened beauty
Slowly flex their tired wings
Tucked silently in their flower beds

A cricket quior awakens to the twilight and the setting sun
Legionaires they wait
And one by one begin to chirp
Chiming in at just the right moment

Like the string section of a philharmonic
The crickets chirp their night time song
Louder and louder... striving orgasmic peaks

Each section of the evenings orchestra
proudly raises their heads to sing to the night
...to sing with the others

Their song soon grows to a towering drone
Consuming all ears
Covering even the loud whispers of a waterfall nearbye
Engulfing the endless stars above

Some would deem the sound as noise
And move to block it from their path
But tonight, as you lie your head to rest
You know it is the song
Nature has chosen for you

As the quiors song carries you to sleep...
You know, their is hope...
