White Noise(c) 1996 Cedric Hagyard Lost in complex thought, a lone man strides out across abandoned mud of a tidal estuary with a determination that defies the idyllic beauty of nature in tender, loving harmony. The man appears untouched by his surroundings, his eyes apparently oblivious to each new scene of wondrous magnificence constantly paraded before sensory mirrors that inwardly reflect. Swiftly hurrying past pine crowded hills that converge to form a narrow throat through which last dregs of pent up estuary waters now pour to join an endless sunlit sea. Sand, white sand, eddying and swirling, driven by shattered translucent pipes that break on uneven shores then sweep beachward in a chaos of broken waters. An intensely blue sky is powered by the sun's great orb that hangs, resplendent, to join far distant horizons with an azure sea. Peace, everlasting and all pervading peace. Surf rolled pebbles and dancing foam add subtle tones to this painted scene that the man stores for future comfort when dark eyes will mist once more with understanding pain. Boom, hiss, as waves incessantly crash. Boom, hiss, as endless sound fills the brain of the silent thought encapsulated man. Boom, hiss, as white sound encompasses, soothes. Boom, hiss, obliteration of all past hurt by the all pervading, cleansing white noise. Is that distant sea spray mist that clouds the man's eyes, or a mystic mist within? |
