The woman known as Smoke (21 yrs., 5'9", 165 lbs., shoulder length dark auburn hair, grey eyes), if she has a normal name, refuses to share it as a general rule. She was born and grew up in the Redmond Barrens in the border zone between it and Renton. She was the middle child of a normal, if poor, family living in a particularly rough neighborhood. Her frustration with their apparent lot in life, coupled with the tedium of uninspiring and nearly negligent schooling (in the end graduating only because she'd been pushed through the system), soon had her trying to seek another way out through the gangs and, as a result, the criminal organizations ie the syndicates, particularly the Yakuza. The desire to make money, though, after a while subtly metamorphosed into the desire for an edge over the others she had to compete with in making that money. This was compounded by an incident that nearly ended with her going to a hospital; she got into a running firefight with Lone Star when a rival took a potshot at an officer, making it look like she did it. Although she did not have to go to a hospital, she did end up at a local street doctor's that was in the Yakuza's pay. It was through him and the burgeoning ties she'd already begun developing with them herself that she became fitted out with the majority of her cyberware, putting herself deeply into their debt.

So deeply, in fact, it would take a miracle to pull her out of it. Until that day comes, if it does, she works to pay them and keep herself alive, the majority of her money going to pay them and occasionally doing 'requested jobs'.
